Today is the 89th birth anniversary of poet, columnist and journalist Shamsur Rahman. On the occasion of the day, the popular search engine Google made the new doodle on their homepage. The news agency has information on the UNB.

Shamsur Rahman (23 October 1929 - 17 August 2006), one of the leading poets of modern Bengali literature, appeared in the second half of the 20th century. Shamsur Rahman was born in Old Dhaka, 46 in Mahoutului area. His ancestral home was in the village of Padatoli on the river Meghna river under Raipura thana of Narsingdi.

While studying English literature at Dhaka University, Shamsur Rahman joined the progressive writer-artist association. The poem in the honey canteen was read by the poet. In steadfastly, he was involved in the language movement.

Poet Shamsur Rahman entered his professional career after passing his graduation in 1953. Shamsur Rahman, Radio Pakistan, Daily Pakistan (later Dainik Bangla), started the career as a co-editor of Daily Morning News and worked in the media for weekly Bichitra and others.

Shamsur Rahman's first poetry book, 'First Song, Before the Second Death' was published in the 1960's. He published 66 poems, four novels, a book, a book of chhands and six translations.

Shamsur Rahman Adamjee Sahitya Puraskar, Bangla Academy Award, Ekushey Padak, Nasir Uddin Gold Medal, Jibanananda Award and Swadhinata Padak were conferred on the recognition of long literary life. In addition, Jadavpur University and Rabindra Bharati University of India awarded him the honorary D.Litt title.

Poet Shamsur Rahman left his breath in 12 days after being in coma for 17 days on August 17, 2006 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
