There are two optimal and unfavorable environments for dolphins in Bangladesh. In favorable sense that in the world in Bangladesh, they get three living areas for the first time. The government of Bangladesh declares three areas of the Sundarbans as a sanctuary for them. Later, three areas of the Meghna river were known as dolphins' sanctuary. And because of adverse reasons, 25 to 30 dolphin fishermen trapped in the net every year and the engine dies due to boat injuries. But hopefully, there are still seven thousand dolphins in the country.
Bangladesh, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand. Pakistan, India and Nepal also declare sanctuary in their rivers for dolphins. They also took several initiatives to protect dolphins. It has increased dolphins in Malaysia, Cambodia and Thailand. But the dangers of dolphin in the rivers of Bangladesh are increasing day by day. The dolphin and wild animal experts of the country think that there are no effective measures to overcome these dangers.
In this situation, the first day of international dolphin (Freshwater) Day will be observed in the country on Wednesday. On the occasion of the day, a three-day dolphin fair has been organized at the Liberation War Museum in Agargaon, capital city. The dolphin fair will be held in the Sundarbans and adjoining areas from 4 to 15 November. IUCN jointly organized the international coalition of forest department and nature conservation organizations. Various programs including awareness exhibition, discussion, puppets, etc. will be organized in the fair to protect dolphins. Now the slogan of the day- Keep clear of water ', keep the dolphins play'.
Asked, IUCN's local director Rakibul Amin said in the first light, how good a river's surroundings can be understood, by how much is the number of dolphins. And the river is the life of Bangladesh. As a result, protecting dolphins can protect the rivers and the environment of Bangladesh. And this work can not be done solely for forest department or any organization alone. The fair was organized to make the people aware about this.
How many dolphins in rivers, how many dangers
Among the 12 species of dolphins in the country, freshwater dolphins are two species. Ganges and Irrawaddy dolphins A survey of four organizations, including the forest department, found that large volumes of dolphin in the country live in the Sundarbans. 6 thousand of 7000 dolphins are in the Sundarbans. In the year 2017, a survey was conducted by the University of Zoology, Department of Zoology, Manzurul Kibria, with the help of the Halda river dolphin. It is found that around 200 dolphins live in the river. However, from October to March this year, the bodies of 18 dolphins were seen floating in the river. Following this series of dolphin deaths, the committee formed the government. The committee says that these dolphins are being killed mainly due to sandy trawlers. Later, the death of dolphins was reduced after the disruption of such trawlers in the dolphin area.
