Prime Minister urges to strengthen maritime security


Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stressed on ways to further strengthen maritime security of the region in future through the experience and exchange of the different countries of the Asia region. The Prime Minister said, "The security of the sea is important for us. The large population of this region is dependent on sea resources for their livelihood. '

He said this while inaugurating the fourteen 'Heads of Asian Coast Guard' (Hackgam) high-level meeting at Hotel Radisson Blu on Wednesday morning.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Bangladesh Coast Guard will work together with other organizations in the Asian region to keep our sea safe - that is my expectation. We will take all such initiatives. '

He said, I am hopeful that through this meeting, the heads of all coastal and maritime organizations in the Asian region will be able to find ways to strengthen maritime security through experience and exchange of views.

The Prime Minister said the Coast Guard members are engaged in the difficult task of securing security in the sea area. I believe that member countries through this meeting will be able to take new strategies to make their seaside safe and risk-free.

Sheikh Hasina said, the greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first comprehended the importance of the country's sea, and in 1974, to form the 'Territorial Waters and Maritime Jones Act' in establishing the sovereign rights of the people in the sea and sea resources. At that time a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with Myanmar.

Director General of Bangladesh Coastguard Rear Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Home Secretary Mostafa Kamal Uddin attended the program.

Cabinet members, chiefs of three services, parliament members, senior secretaries and secretaries of various ministries and senior military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
