The government has recognized Hijraad as the 'gender'. However, the Hijraas are not getting the chance to vote as 'Hijra' gender in the next parliamentary elections. They have to vote as 'women' or 'men' as before.
Due to the voter list and its CD being created, it was not possible to separate the 'transitory' gender in the list. This information was received from the latest meeting of the Election Commission.
On October 15, the 36th meeting of the Election Commission was held. Secretary of the Commission Secretariat Helaluddin Ahmed said that the government recognized the hedged population as 'transitory' gender. For this reason, the need for mentioning the women as a separate gender of women and men in the voter list has been made and legal obligation has also been made in this regard.
But in the meeting, Election Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said that it is not possible to create separate voter list for the hijras before eleven parliamentary elections.
It was decided in the meeting that steps will be taken to amend the voter list rules after the eleventh parliamentary elections and to refer to the gender of the hijadas. However, if contacted personally, no transit of EC will be amended to replace 'women' or 'male'.
Currently, the hijras are included in the voters list as 'women' or 'men'.
Asked about the election commissioner Rafiqul Islam in the first light, the voter list has been prepared for the election. The CD has been created. Because of this, it is not possible to recognize Hijra's gender as a voter list in this year's election.
