EVM polls: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda said there is no law for the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). If there is a law, EVM will be used in the next parliamentary elections. The Chief Election Commissioner said this while inaugurating the EVM fair held at Khulna on Saturday morning.

Although the government and the Election Commission are interested, BNP has a strong objection to voting in EVM. The party has claimed that the government will rig the vote.

The last session of the Tenth National Parliament is going on. The Parliament will expire on Monday after the end of the session. The EC has proposed to amend the Representation of the People Order (RPO) to use EVMs in the national elections. If the RPP amendment gets passed in the parliament, the EC wants to use EVMs in the limited area in the next general elections. If the RPO amendment in parliament is not passed in the next two days, it will not be possible to use EVMs in national elections without issuing ordinance. Since 2011, EVMs have been used in a limited range of local elections. On September 18, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project of Tk 3,825 crore for the purchase of EVM. To bring more transparency in the electoral system, one and a half lakh EVMs will be bought under the EVM procurement, conservation and management project.

CEC KM Nurul Huda told the inauguration ceremony of the EVM Fair, there was a debate on EVMs, there are, there will be In developed countries, there is a debate over this. There is debate when the information is out of order. Still EVMs will be spread out. This time the selection will be done by EVM.
